What is AEO for a local business? Answer engine optimization is the practice of making information useful to systems that answer questions. For a local business, the practical work is explaining what you do, where you do it, what customers should expect, and how to get help. Those same answers support ordinary search engine optimization, or SEO.

Clear answers help a person decide whether to call. They also give search systems concrete information to work with. They do not guarantee that any AI service will mention your business.

Does Google AI search require special optimization?

Google says its AI Overviews and AI Mode use the foundations of Search. A supporting page must be indexed and eligible for a search snippet. Its guidance does not require a special AI file or dedicated schema type. Keep content accessible, useful, and consistent with your structured data. See Google's AI features documentation.

That statement applies to those Google features. Other answer services have their own systems, and a change that makes a page clearer is not proof of visibility across all of them.

Which questions should your service page answer?

  • What do you do? Name the specific service and any important limits.
  • Where do you work? List actual coverage or explain how customers check their address.
  • What does it cost? Give a real price when possible, or explain what affects the estimate and whether there is an assessment fee.
  • When can you help? Describe actual hours and booking expectations. Do not promise same-day service unless the operation can support it.
  • What happens next? Explain what the form asks for, who responds, and how an appointment or quote is arranged.

Start with questions from calls, emails, and the front counter. Use keyword research to refine the wording, not to replace the customer's problem with a topic nobody needs.

What does a useful answer look like?

Illustrative service-page example: We repair residential garage doors in [actual service area]. Tell us the door type and what it is doing when you request an appointment. We explain any assessment fee before booking and quote repair work after inspecting the door. Availability depends on the schedule.

This is a writing example, not a claim about a particular company. Replace each detail with something your business can verify. If the fee is fixed, publish it. If some door types are outside your service, say so.

Use a question as a heading when it helps the reader, then answer it in the first sentence. Add conditions and practical steps afterward. Avoid a long introduction that makes someone scroll just to find out whether you serve their town.

Do you need a page for every nearby town?

Build a location page when you have useful information specific to that place: a real office, relevant service coverage, a local project you can describe with permission, or a different process. Replacing a town name in the same paragraph does little to help a customer choose.

One accurate service-area page is a sensible starting point for a small team. Link it from the main service pages. Add more pages when there is enough distinct information to justify the reader's time.

What should you check on the website?

  1. Read it on a phone. Check whether the service, coverage, and contact action are easy to find.
  2. Test the contact path. Submit a test inquiry and confirm it reaches the responsible person.
  3. Check page titles. Describe the actual service and business clearly rather than repeating a keyword list.
  4. Keep answers in readable page text. A price or service boundary should not exist only inside an image.
  5. Check discovery. Link important pages from the site and use Search Console to investigate indexing problems.

How do you know whether it is working?

Compare search impressions and clicks with inquiries, qualified inquiries, appointments, and completed work. Keep the definitions consistent. A click from someone outside your service area is different from a booked customer.

Google reports traffic from its AI search features within Search Console's Web performance data. That is not a separate, complete AEO scorecard. Google's measurement guidance explains the reporting scope.

Choose one service page this week. Add the missing answer that most often slows down a customer, test its contact path, and record the change. Then align your Google Business Profile with those same facts. If the page or intake needs rebuilding, our website development service explains how we approach that work.
